For Naime Joseph
By Michael Joseph
“I love you honey, God bless you”. Those seven words are words that Naime, “momma J” would say to anyone at the end of a conversation. It did not matter if they were a stranger or someone she has known for years, Naime had a heart for everyone.
Born in Kfeir, Lebanon on November 22, 1932 she immigrated to the United States at the age of 16. Funny story about Naime. When she got through Ellis Island and was in New York, she used a Taxi Cab. After the taxi took her to where she needed to go, Naime got out of the taxi but forgot to pay. The taxi driver stopped her and told her to pay. Naime’s response, “America, Free country”. She would then end up in Toledo, Ohio where years later a man named Samuel Joseph from Huntington, West Virginia heard of a Lebanese girl in Toledo. He went up there and they got married. What a love story!
Naime loved everyone she encountered, whether that was her 3 children, John, Sandra and Diana or her 3 grandchildren CJ, Nick and Mike. She cherished these 6 like no other. Naime was a huge Marshall fan and would enjoy the football games like no other. Whenever we would show up to the stadium during tailgate time, everyone would recognize “momma J”. Naime knew everyone and everyone knew her.
Naime was one who could definitely move on the dance floor when it came to be time for the annual Kferian Reunions. Even in her later years, she didn’t miss a beat and would still dabke as much as she could.
Naime Joseph, my Citti was and still is a light throughout the whole family, the city of Huntington and the world. If there was ever a stranger on the side of the road struggling for money, food or whatever, Naime would be there, to help them no matter what. Because that was just her, someone who would be there for someone no matter if they were part of the family or not, everyone was family to her. This is for “momma J”, my Citti, Naime Joseph.
