The History of the Kfeirian Reunion Foundation Seal
In the Fall of 1967 during the early planning stages for the 1968 Kfeirian Reunion to be held in Huntington, WV, George Hanna realized that the Foundation did not have an emblem with which the Foundation could readily be identified. After considering several ideas, George asked Jerry Sutphin and Bill Dawson, two artist friends, to assist him in designing an emblem. Discussion soon centered on what symbol would best reflect the origin of our organization. The Cedar of Lebanon was the unanimous choice and became the center of the overall design. It was then decided that a green Cedar should be placed within a circle bearing the Foundation name and the colors used for the emblem should be red and blue with white letters.
After the final drawing was agreed upon by all three men, George Hanna had a local trophy company cut out the parts of the emblem. These parts were then hand painted by Jerry Sutphin and George Hanna and assembled. The finished emblem was presented to the General Assembly for consideration at the Reunion of 1968. It was accepted unanimously by the Assembly and officially became the Foundation’s seal on September 1, 1968.

In the summer of 2021, Joey Peck continued the legacy his Godfather started 54 years ago. Joey commissioned an artist to redesign the Kfeirian Reunion seal. The subtle redesign of the seal added a modern touch to the blue sky and a proper cedar tree. The redesigned seal was presented to the Board of Trustees during their meeting on August 24, 2021 and to the General assembly during the 89th Virtual Kfeirian Reunion on September 24, 2021. The redesign was unanimously approved.
In the fall of 2021, Joey commissioned a company in California to create a new wooden seal to replace the one George had made in 1968. The new seal is carved out of cedar wood (in homage to the Lebanese cedar tree), is hand painted and is 14” in diameter. Joey donated the new seal in memory of the founders of the Kfeirian Reunion Foundation and in honor of our 90th anniversary. The new seal will officially be unveiled at the 90th Annual Kfeirian Reunion in Huntington, WV - Labor Day weekend 2022.
