My Kfeir
By Stepanie Abou Rahal
I am Stephanie Abou Rahal Lebanese Kfeirian girl living in Beirut. I am so happy to meet the Kfeirian in US via Facebook and then live in Lebanon in 2019.
I am glad that I am writing for you my memories and experience in Kfeir. Since I was a little girl my parents bring me to our village every weekend and holiday. It is a good point that my father and my mother are both from Kfeir so we can visit all my relatives once we are there.
Agriculture is the most important activity in Kfeir, like growing grapes, figs, cherries, Janerik and many more. But the essential season is the Olives one. Kfeir is famous in its olive’s oil and all the Kfeirian wait for this season, it is their principal source of income.

People in Kfeir use the olive oil to produce the famous Lebanese soap "صابون بلدي"
Olive oil mixed to caustic potash then heat until having a viscous mixture which will form the soap.
Holidays in Kfeir are so special, especially when we are around our family. In addition to Christmas, New Year and Easter, Kfeirians have many more holidays to celebrate.

In 6 August, we celebrate the Lord Transfiguration feast in the mountain of Haramoun and everyone light up candles on their home’s rooftop.

- In 13 September, it is Jesus Christ’s Cross feast and there is a tradition where Kfeirian set fires on the roofs of churches and houses or in public squares. This tradition goes back to the fire that Saint Helena ordered to ignite from one mountaintop to another in order to convey the news of her finding the cross to her son, Emperor Constantine in Constantinople. As fire was the means of rapid communication at that time.
Kfeir is such a beautiful village, in winter snow falls and cover all the nature and in spring the flowers bloom and decorate our gardens.
I encourage all young Kfeirians in US to visit Kfeir and to learn more about their families and their heritage.
