Bassett Sisters - 1926
This photograph of the children of Abraham and Rahija Saad Bassett was taken about 1926 in their home in Williamson West Virginia.
From left to right are Gladys Shumla 11, Selma Mae, 10, Wadad Ethyl 8, and Alice Tamam 5.
The girls are holding oud-like instruments in what was the families' "Piano Room." Gladys sits at an upright piano, and behind Alice is a Victrola with a wind-up handle on the right side of the cabinet. Many records of this period were of double thickness and often recorded on only one side.
Their mother Rahija taught herself to play the piano.
